Your browser asks once for the microphone. The measurement runs only in your browser and never leaves it: nothing is recorded, stored or sent, and no speech recognition takes place. Only the time you are speaking is measured; pauses of one second or longer are not counted, just as in the app. Free dictation adds thinking pauses, so your value here applies to reading aloud.

Does Redefix also run on Mac or Linux?

No. Redefix is a tool for Windows 10 and 11. macOS, Linux and mobile devices are explicitly not planned.

Does Redefix need an internet connection?

Not for everyday use. Speech recognition, text processing, translation and read-aloud run locally. The app downloads its models once, and it briefly needs internet to activate; after that it works offline.

Are my recordings or texts sent anywhere?

No. Voice recordings and dictated texts never leave your PC. The app only goes online for activation, updates, short notices and downloading voices or specialist libraries. At most it sends your email address, a computer checksum (not the Windows ID itself), the computer name, the license file and the program version to redefix.app. The complete list is in the privacy policy (section 7).

What does “incl. 1 year of updates” mean?

You buy once and use that version indefinitely. For one year, new versions are free. After that you simply keep working; an optional feature update costs a one-time €19 (incl. VAT). Security fixes remain free permanently.

Which languages does Redefix support?

German and English reliably. More languages are in progress and are downloaded when needed, instead of shipping everything.

Can I try it first?

Yes — for 14 days. You create a free account (no payment details) and download Redefix there. The specialist libraries only show their value in everyday work, which is why the trial period is deliberately longer.

Windows shows a warning during installation. Is that normal?

Yes. Windows checks program files downloaded from the internet. As long as it has rarely seen a file, it asks once. This affects many programs outside the Microsoft Store and says nothing about the safety of the file.
